We got to meet our wonderful Iowa candidate Heather Matson at our monthly zoom meeting last Thursday. She brings a collaborative, community-focused approach to governance.
Currently in the state house, Heather is running for the open state senate seat in Ankeny, a Des Moines suburb (SD 21). Heather said if she wins it, the seat will be a "firewall" to defend the huge gains Dems made when Catelin Drey flipped SD 1 in the 2025 special election (State Win's support was essential, Drey said) and broke the Republican state senate supermajority.
This will be a competitive election cycle in Iowa, driven by an open U.S. Senate seat, a high-stakes governor’s race, and a competitive house seat in Heather's district. Let's help Heather win this key battleground district by donating and attending the events we have planned for her!

Come for an evening of wine tasting, hors d'oeuvres, and desserts (including vegan & gluten free options) at the Uncorked! Wine Bar in Saratoga. We'll have a guest speaker--Rob Moore, Mayor of Los Gatos, and a huge supporter of States Win. (He's also Los Gatos' youngest mayor ever.) Enjoy some fabulous wine while you help get out the vote in Iowa! All proceeds will benefit our Iowa candidate Heather Matson running for the Iowa State Senate.
Suggested ticket price: $60/person - $100/couple (which includes a glass of wine) - $26.26 for under 30s.
Come to a South Bay phonebank on Saturdays, 12pm - 2pm PT! You can join us either in Mountain View or from your home on Zoom. We're calling voters in Michigan and Wisconsin. Remember, you use your own laptop, not your phone and personal phone number.
No experience is needed. We will provide training and a supportive team environment. Let's win this together!
Rebecca M. just started phonebanking with SWSB this year. Here are some thoughts about her experience so far:
A friend asked me, Why do you phonebank? Isn't it scary?
Well, yes, at first. I knew the candidates want us to call their voters, but I get anxious talking on the phone. So the idea of phonebanking was intimidating. I think because it's outside of my comfort zone, I wanted to prove to myself that the future of our country is more important to me than my personal comfort. Phoning voters is not as scary as living in a country where our democratic and human rights are being stripped away.
Once I got into a few calls, it became pretty easy. I was surprised at the number of people who were open to chatting with me and learning about the candidate. And at the end of the session, I felt like I made a difference which was worth the occasional hang up or rude person. I'd definitely recommend trying it at least once; you might be surprised to find you're good at it!
